CASE STUDY #194

A New Media and Entertainment Entity Examines Its Security Posture Through a Best-Practice Lens

Challenge

One of the most promising new media and entertainment ventures focused on young women and sports decided to preemptively undertake a strategic and comprehensive assessment of its day-to-day security operations.  Several of its leaders wanted to capture a complete picture of the risks, threats and vulnerabilities confronting its events, including all attendees and staff and a fair critique of the countermeasures it currently relied upon to address these.  “Why don’t you plan on being on-site during our big annual event,” one of them said. “Use that as an opportunity to observe and evaluate our practices in action and in real-time.”

Action

The Baghera Group team attended the event, observed its supporting operations and interviewed many stakeholders.  We provided real-time crisis management support due to an unexpected, elevated threat environment and assisted in developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies and messaging customized for the clients’ stakeholders.

The project report communicated nine key findings, 80+ recommendations and a roadmap that included recommendations on security leadership and authority; a strategic multi-year budget; security policies, procedures, and standards to be implemented; and various technology platforms for gathering and analyzing critical information to be employed at the corporate level and regional offices.

Impact

This engagement provided the client with both short-term priority recommendations and longer-term programmatic guidance to develop an in-house security program that could scale up with the expected growth of the company in the next three to five years.  When this organization carries through on all recommendations in the report, its venues and events will be protected by a security program and capabilities that meet or exceed security best practices in its industry.
