A Major Entertainment Venue Taps Experts to Assess a New System of Security Technologies

Challenge

What’s the most effective way to secure spectators, talent, and staff visiting your venue for the largest attended annual sporting event in the world – especially when they number in the hundreds of thousands?  That is a critical question, one that deserves careful, expert consideration.  The executives producing this event sought independent, external specialists in security technology to review the wave of proposals received from many of the world’s leading technology system vendors.  They asked The Baghera Group to analyze the quantitative and qualitative information on each security system and provide recommendations on the options confronting the organization – with respect to many factors, such as cost, risks, implementation complexity, user experience, warranty and inventory management.

Action

The Baghera Group developed a multi-technology implementation plan while ensuring the pilot program did not decrease the historical and expected level of security. We created a standardized RFI, requested and reviewed proposals, and then negotiated pricing, staffing, and distribution, as well as marketing and advertising opportunities. In addition, we provided on-premises oversight, delivered training and supervision of new technology implementation by contract security, and gathered, tracked, and assessed feedback from guests, staff, and contract security.

We provided reviews on the various technologies, leveraging our professional expertise and personal experience. This involved coordinating calls with the CSO and lead personnel for piloted technologies, creating setup plans and briefings ensuring that the technology integrated properly into the existing access control plan, and coordinated customized calibration with vendors and testing of devices, as needed. After the event, we worked with the technology representatives to gather metrics as well as reactions and responses from high-profile guests, talent, and staff. This helped ensure that the findings were comprehensive, relevant and of actionable value to senior corporate decision makers.

Impact

The Baghera Group’s final report compared multiple technologies across characteristics such as price, capabilities, trade-offs, and training. The CSO shared that “the expertise provided by Baghera Group, along with the level of engagement and support was above and beyond my expectations. The strategic plan [they] provided made the operational implementation and ultimate assessment of the technologies easily digestible and simplified, thereby enabling me and our organization to make a more informed decision concerning commitment to these technologies and the financial implications for our event.”
